Day 9

Hi to all our readers at home,

Emily and Lucia wrote a fantastic blog post to update you on Day 9, however, due to some technical (Indian wifi) difficulties, all their hard work was lost in cyberspace!

We had a great day in St George's, the Mary Rice Centre, a trip to the Diamond Plaza Mall (using various methods of transport!) and had the chance to help out at St. Mary's soup kitchen.. we promise we will provide you with an extra-detailed blog post tomorrow but for now, enjoy our photos from today! Thanks for understanding,

the India Team xoxo

  1. Hello everyone, a huge thank you for the wonderful blog and super photos. You have captured and shared so many of the wonderful aspects of your visit, countless special moments which you will treasure. Your candle burned brightly in the Chapel through last week and many classes had the opportunity to read your daily accounts, which they all loved.
We are so proud of you for engaging so wholeheartedly in everything, for embracing the different aspects of your stay, and we can see the months of preparation come to fruition under the fabulous care and guidance of the HCK staff and your host schools.
I am really looking forward to spending time with you all when you return, and hearing your stories in person. You have crammed so much into each day, and will always carry these personal encounters and experiences in your heart.
Safe travelling home and blessings in abundance to all.
    Mrs Moiselle.

Day Four in Kolkata: A Day of Hope

After a jam-packed few days, we were all grateful for a half an hour lie-in this morning. By 8:45am we were ready for the bus that would bring us to the Hope Foundation. Here, we visited a creche which is organised by the Hope Foundation and we were greeted by many young children. Each one of them was so bright-spirited, enthusiastic and full of energy. Unfortunately, we learned that some of these children had to leave early to return to prison which is where they live with their parents and many of these children don't have a place to call home so the creche is their safe place. In spite of this, the children were welcoming and never failed to make us smile. They amazed us with their English nursery rhymes and coordinated dance moves and they most definitely out did us! It was a beautiful morning but challenging to think of the circumstances from which they come. It made us appreciate everything we have and we were so in awe of the work of the Hope Foundation and the structure the

Day Two in Kolkata

Day two  The day started off well with a wake up call at 7.30am for breakfast at 8am. We then divided into groups and 4 of the girls and Miss Somerville went off to the Mary Rice Centre and the other 8 went across the road to St.George's School.  Those of us who travelled to the Mary Rice Centre (which is a school for students with special needs) left at 8:30am and walked to the Central Metro Station. We bought our tickets to Dum Dum, costing a mere 10 rupees each. Once on the train we stood and braced ourselves against the starting and stopping.  At the station, we got off and again began on our already-trodden path to the Mary Rice Centre. We passed the fish for sale on the road and navigated the extremely busy roads to arrive at the school.  Dodging tuktuks and embracing the smells en route to the gates of the school, we were greeted by the now familiar face of Brother Charlie.  We began with exercise class and enthusiastically joined in to various dances and workouts.
