Twelve students accompanied by three staff members will travel to Kolkata, India to live and work with the Christian Brother community in St. George's School, Bow Bazar and St. Mary's Dum Dum from 4th - 15th February, 2023. 

They have undertaken an active and creative educational process to increase their awareness and understanding of the world we live in. They have engaged in a process of interaction, reflection and action. As part of this action project they have carried out an extensive fundraising programme. All proceeds will go directly towards education for the poor in Kolkata.

Day 9

 Hi to all our readers at home, Emily and Lucia wrote a fantastic blog post to update you on Day 9, however, due to some technical (Indian wifi) difficulties, all their hard work was lost in cyberspace! We had a great day in St George's, the Mary Rice Centre, a trip to the Diamond Plaza Mall (using various methods of transport!) and had the chance to help out at St. Mary's soup kitchen.. we promise we will provide you with an extra-detailed blog post tomorrow but for now, enjoy our photos from today! Day Four in Kolkata: A Day of Hope

After a jam-packed few days, we were all grateful for a half an hour lie-in this morning. By 8:45am we were ready for the bus that would bring us to the Hope Foundation. Here, we visited a creche which is organised by the Hope Foundation and we were greeted by many young children. Each one of them was so bright-spirited, enthusiastic and full of energy. Unfortunately, we learned that some of these children had to leave early to return to prison which is where they live with their parents and many of these children don't have a place to call home so the creche is their safe place. In spite of this, the children were welcoming and never failed to make us smile. They amazed us with their English nursery rhymes and coordinated dance moves and they most definitely out did us! It was a beautiful morning but challenging to think of the circumstances from which they come.
